Improving efficiency by upgrading and implementing the BI accelerator

Upgrade to SEM-BCS 4.0 / BI 3.5 to SEM-BCS 6.0 / BI 7.0 at Munich Re AG

The goal of the upgrade to SAP SEM BCS 6.0 and SAP BI 7.0 was to improve efficiency and to accelerate the group closing process.

The performance of reporting and of SAP BI based tasks in the SEM-BCS system were significantly improved mainly due to the parallel implementation of the BI accelerator.

The Go Live planning was a challenge. The amount time the system needed to be available meant the plan had to include a zero-downtime-approach.

During the upgrade the SEM BCS data base and the MultiProvider scenario, interfaces, process chains and customer developments were all adapted or newly created. The authorization concept for reporting was migrated to the BW 7.0 analysis authorizations.
