UTILITIES INDUSTRY
AN INDUSTRY IN TRANSITION

For many years, the liberalisation of the utilities sector has resulted in a multitude of new legal regulations that have affected organisations within the industry. This has led to a chain of consecutive projects in various parts of organisations and their IT infrastructures.
Current issues such as the unbundling of services, smart metering, MaBiS, as well as cyclical adjustments of date format versions, continue to leave little room for organisations to evaluate their actual service capabilities. However, such an evaluation is urgently required in order to improve efficiency and quality of existing structures and processes and the logical connections between them. Unfulfilled potential can then be identified and utilised.
To prepare organisations for the coming years, it is necessary to identify ways in which these improvements can be introduced. Controlling and realignment of all processes (for example in billing, market communication or hardware management) leads to a reduction in errors. Process costs are reduced as a result of fewer manual interventions. With the same goal in mind, improvements can also encompass the outsourcing of certain processes, thereby becoming leaner and buying in services.
