GEV completes successful migration to SAP S/4HANA in record time

Grundeigentümer-Versicherung (GEV) has completed its technical migration to SAP S/4HANA. Within 15 months, the core SAP modules, including FI, ERP and FS-PM, were fully migrated. Three existing SAP system tracks were also consolidated into a single instance. The project was delivered on premises, with Convista providing overall technical management.

GEV migriert in Rekordzeit erfolgreich auf SAP S/4HANA

During the preliminary study, GEV decided early on for a purely technical migration. The goal was to create a future-proof, harmonized system architecture without extensive new functional development in the first phase. This reduced complexity in one of the largest IT projects in GEV’s history, and with it the risk to the company.

Despite external factors such as hardware delivery delays and parallel product launches, the timeline was met. The decisive success factors were early project structuring, a clearly defined scope, and close, open communication between everyone involved. In particular, measures such as reducing data volumes through a policy-based approach using ILM lowered both the complexity of the project and its ongoing operating costs.

“For this collaboration, we wanted a partner who works with us as an equal and understands our needs. We found exactly that in the Convista team,”

says Florian Wieberneit, Head of IT and lead for the transformation project on GEV’s side. The project was successfully completed in mid-July 2025 with the go-live of the final component.

Outlook

With the consolidated S/4HANA instance, GEV now has a modern technology platform that can flexibly accommodate both future business requirements and regulatory developments. Looking ahead, plans include connecting additional cloud services, using embedded analytics, and gradually expanding automated workflows.
